Ananda Marga Gurukula was founded by Shrii P.R. Sarkar on September 7, 1990 in order to preserve & further neohumanist values. The educational network of AMGK strives to disseminate the numerous spiritual, intellectual and literary gifts that its founder graciously bequeathed to humanity before departing physically on October 21, 1990. He bestowed the sacred task of establishing AMGK to his numerous devoted disciples under the leadership of a Kulapati (Chancellor). On the night of October 20, 1990, the founder composed his last song #5018 on Gurukula as one of His last gift to humanity.

AMGK was founded in order to serve humanity with a neohumanist spirit and to acquire knowledge for that purpose. It also has a department of Yoga and Intuitional Science, a Tantra Vidyapiitha (an advanced institute of Yoga, Tantra and Allied Sciences) and supports the study and practice of Ra'ja'dhira'ja Yoga. AMGK is also the final agency to grant accreditation to all neohumanist institutions in the world irrespective of the area of focus of the respective institution.

One of the primary activities of Gurukula is to guide the establishment of Neohumanist schools around the world. Currently, it claims to have 1200 such schools.

Yoga Education in Schools (YES!) Initiative and literally all education-related movements and activities stemming from the thoughts of Shrii P.R.Sarkar.

As and when the resources become available, one of the goals of AMGK would be to establish its own full-fledged global university campus at Anandanagar, India and its sister campuses on master-units (eco-villages) currently being developed around the world. During his life time, Shrii P.R.Sarkar laid the foundational plans for Samskrta Vidyapiitha, Hindi Bha'rati, Bamgla Vidyapiitha, an Institute of Technology, a Degree College, Agricultural Research Centres, Fine Arts & Music College, Composite Medical College, Womens Entrepreneurial Centre, Rahrology Research Centre and other educational programs at Anandanagar.
