Diploma in Ra'ja'dhira'ja Yoga

The curriculum will consist of two parts: Theory and Practical

The theory portion will cover the survey of historical landscape of Yoga, philosophy and psychological underpinnings of Yoga and Tantra and the science behind the practises of Yoga.

The Practical part will deal with how to teach yoga poses according to the Ananda Marga style (including technique, alignment, preparatory and alternative poses) ; Techniques and exercises for teaching simple meditation classes ; Tips on public speaking and teaching methodology; Anatomy and physiology from the perspective of a yoga pose. Personal Practice on a regular basis.

Module 1 - Yoga: History, Traditions and Biographies.

Practicum Focus- General Guidelines for practising or prescribing yoga practises; Kaoshikii/Tandava

Module 2 - Introduction to Yoga Anatomy, Physiology & Bio Psychology.

Practicum Focus- Yoga Warm-Ups & Self Massage

Module 3 - Classic Yogic Texts: As'tavakra Giita, Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Patainjali Yoga Sutras, Bhagvata Giita, Siva Sam'hita, Mahanirvana Tantra, Kularnava Tantra, Ananda Sutram.

Practicum Focus- Basic Asanas for Brothers and Sisters

Module 4 - Yoga Philosophy: Namami Krsna Sundaram, Namah Shivaya Shantaya, Ananda Marga Elementary Philosophy, Discourses on Tantra (1 & 2).

Practicum Focus- First Ten Asanas of the 40 prescribed in Carya Carya-Part 3 by Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiiji

Module 5 - Yogic Practises: Conduct Rules, Yoga-Ethics, Yoga Dances, Sixteen Points, Food & Fasting, Yoga Life Style

Practicum Focus- Second set of 10 asanas from CC-3

Module 6 - Yoga & Society: Applied Ethics, Neohumanism, PROUT, NHE, Integrated Farming, Microvita Science, Master Units.

Practicum Focus- Third set of 10 asanas

Module 7 - Yoga & Creativity: Prabha't Samgiita, Mandalas, Spiritual Art, Mysticism in Poetry.

Practicum Focus- Fourth Set of 10 asanas

Module 8 - Healing Systems, Yoga Therapy & Natural Remedies.

Practicum Focus-Non-Prescribed Asanas like Surya Namaskar; Mudras, Bandhas, Concerns about Pra'n'ya'ma

Module 9 - Yoga Teaching Methodologies & Professional Ethics- qualities of teacher; assessing students’ needs; teaching styles; role of demonstration and observation; process of learning; causes of confusions and misunderstandings; communication process; Personal and Professional Ethics of Yoga Instructors;

Practicum Focus- Techniques and exercises for teaching simple meditation classes.

Module 10 - Independent Study on topic related to Physical, Psychic, or Spiritual Aspects of Yoga.

Practicum Focus- Case Studies: Applied Aspects of teaching yoga and running yoga centres. Legal aspects of Yoga-teaching. Business aspects ; Research Methods; Public Relations; Professional Affiliations; Continuing Education.

Some of the essential elements integrated in diploma course on Yoga Education are:
  1. Guided Personal Practice in yoga techniques (minimum 150 hours)
  2. Teaching Methodology (minimum 30 hours)
  3. Anatomy & Physiology;Bio-Psychology (minimum 50 hours)
  4. Yoga Philosophy/Yoga Science/ Life Style (minimum 60 hours)
  5. Personal and Professional Ethics(minimum 25 hours)
  6. Practicum & Internship(40 hours)
  7. Optional: Advanced Teachers Training in Meditation
